In my opinion, nowhere near as powerful as some would have you believe. Brutal, yes, anti-semitic, nope. I draw the line at ravens poking the condemned in the eyes, that's just gross. I can understand the significance of a film like this differing from one religious group to the next. The Jews may be up in arms about this, but then who wouldn't be when it's mass-circulated "look what they did" movie-making. Quite simply the last hours of Christ on celluloid. From the bits of dialogue that were subtitled, there was no finger pointing, no accusations, no derogatory remarks or criticism. There was a bit of a worked in 'I really don't want to do this but I have no choice' feeling, and suggested sudden realisation from the Jews of what they've done after the crucifixion. Repentance and remorse. I wouldn't say I was religious. I myself believe religious education should not be compulsory in schools, yet I also feel that God as a moral figure is an absolute must. All in all, it's just a film. I feel I can offer no more of an opinion than that.
