Actor Sheen's foie gras protest
West Wing actor Martin Sheen has joined a campaign to ban the luxury French delicacy foie gras being produced in California.
Sheen has complained its production - made by force-feeding ducks or geese so their livers swell - to lawmakers in the state.
"I was shocked to learn from my friends at PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) about the extreme cruelty involved in foie gras production," he said in a letter.
"If such methods were used on dogs and cats, there would surely be multiple counts of felony cruelty-to-animals charges filed," he said.
