President Roh Moo-hyun on Thursday compared domestic political environment with the U.S. one by illustrating his favorite television program during his important news conference.
Roh introduced an episode of the ``West Wing, in which a U.S. president gives a campaign speech for his party candidate for a U.S. House of Representative election in California.
``We should throw away with double standard, Roh said. ``The President is a politician.
His remarks come as the election watchdog requested that Roh should be politically neutral as a public servant. The National Election Commission (NEC) ruled early this month that President Rohs open support for pro-government Uri Party violates election laws.
In response to the ruling of the NEC, opposition parties introduced an impeachment motion against Roh on Tuesday.
President Roh seems to indirectly show his hope that a head of state should be allowed to engage in political activities, political observers said.
The West Wing emerged in political spotlight as he previously said often watch the program, which features political lives in the White House. The West Wing means a place where the Oval Office is located.
The NBC networks in the U.S. first aired the drama in 1999, and now Seoul-based Catchone, a cable TV showing movies only, broadcasts it twice a week in Korea.
