Today's question of the week. Why was the pilot episode given a 15 certificate by the bbfc? There's no bad language, violence or sex. So why? There was the thing with the doll with a knife stuck through its throat, I suppose, but if it encourages young people to slice Barbie (TM) across the neck then where's the harm?
I can think of many things worse than that in films rated PG and 12. I personally think the BBFC need to calm down and relax a little.

I wondered that aswell. The episodes range from PG to 15. It's weird that the pilot is a 15 but What Kind of Day has it Been is a PG even though the President and co are shot at. The bbfc often get things wrong.

I personally always thought the pilot was a 15 because of Laurie smoking pot and that whole bedroom scene perhaps, even the prostitution storyline, but that was continued in future epis. That's what I told my son when he asked anyway.

You're probably right. I forgot about the pot thing. ;D

Yeah, I think it has to be the pot. The "adult themes" may be developed and alluded to in later episodes but pot-smoking on screen had to be the clincher.

There was the bedroom scene so i guess they thought as it had both that and pot in it it was too adult.
