I know that this is not strictly West Wing related (although POTUS is a Nobel lauriate(sp?)), but I had to vent somewhere. Norwegian Member of Parliament Harald Tom Nesvik has nominated Bush and Blair for the Nobel Peace prize, for "their decisive action against terrorism, something I believe in the future will be the greatest threat to peace." IIRC this guy tried the same thing last year for the action if Afghanistan. If you agree that this is stupid, and against what the peace prize is supposed to be about, you can sign an online petition here: www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/302184339

Thanks for the link.
They wouldn't be the first, er, questionable winners.
This is a brilliant quote, can't remember who said it:
"Satire died the day Henry Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Prize."
For those who don't know, Kissinger was Nixon's Secretary of State who admittedly brokered the Paris Treaty which ended US involvement in Vietnam...
...this after 3 years or so during which he was also instrumental in widening the war by carpet bombing Laos and Cambodia. The destruction of Cambodia was also a key factor in bringing the not exactly pacifist Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge to power in that country.
I don't wish to tar Bush and Blair with the same brush, just to illustrate that there's usually some sort of historical precedent for such ludicrousness as this nomination!

Thanks for the link. i think it is so unbelievable that bush and Blair are nominated. Does anyone smell irony. I signed the petition and emailed it to my class at uni and judging by the number of socialists at Glasgow uni i'm sure a few will sign it.

Bush? Peace prize? Didnt he cancel an international global warming treaty or something?? Yeah, Kyoto. But for my money, the reason to be complaining about this is his actions since 9/11. In what is reckoned to be the biggest PR and foreign policy blunder in the history of politics Bush Junior took worldwide sympathy for America and turned it into almost universal hatred.
