Just interested to see what everybody thinks. I think series 1 myself. Although i'm torn between that and series 2.

Got to be series 1. My PerSoNaL HiSToRy of VieWiNg HaBiTs.... I heard the hype and then it appeared on Channel 4. Despite it's graveyard Thursday slot, I watched every episode except for two - the season premiere and the finale, would you believe it! (the latter I missed thanks to a video f**k up). I think the final episode was shown the same evening as the general election in 2001. After taping some election stuff (for no good reason) I kept the same tape in the machine, all programmed to record whilst I was busy getting pissed. Damn horror and hell, the tape only lasted till the opening credits Season two, I'll admit I lost interest a bit in the middle of it's run. I'm making up for that now with the DVDs. Season Three was a thursday/sunday night thing, sometimes both if I was in for both showings (and sometimes the early friday and late saturday repeats). I was now a real wingnut. And I knew it. All up to date with season four. I've scheduled my own S4 timeslot - Sunday's @ 9pm. That's when I sit down and watch it. It feels right on a Sunday night.

I had to pick Season 1, there are so many fantastic episodes in it. Celestial Navigation, The Crackpots and These Women, Six Meeting Before Lunch, the list goes on and on, in fact most of season 1 was superb.
Even though I haven't seen all of season 2 properly or season 3

It is very difficult to choose between season 1 and 2. I think season 1 is the more consistent, but season 2 has more absolute A+ classic episodes (just). The final clinching factor for me was the climax to season 2. From 'Somebody's Going To...' onwards, every single episode is just superb, and the way in which the MS story arc progresses from '17 People' to 'Two Cathedrals' is for my money the greatest sequence in the series so far.
Season 3 just didn't seem to do enough with the MS storyline and didn't engage our emotions enough until the sublime 'Bartlet For America' (easily the best episode since 'Two Cathedrals'). However I thought the middle ('BFA' to 'Night Five') and end (say, 'Poet Laureate' to 'Posse Comitatus' were the equal of both seasons 1 and 2.

I think Hartsfield's Landing is one of the best episodes of Season 3. Along with Gone Quiet, Indians In The Lobby, The Women Of Qumar, Bartlet For America and the final four episodes. The rest of the episodes have their moments, such as Abby's birthday when the President returns to the party he's greeted by the Canadian flag and national anthem, having been gone for less than an hour. ;D

It's a little difficult for me to compare season 3 to the others as I have only seen each episode once (apart from the three most recently shown on channel 4). I am looking forward to seeing the rest of the season again; I'm sure that (as in seasons 1 and 2) the episodes improve with repated viewing.

Series one.
I'm not sure about what I'm going to write next. When TWW first came about, I'm sure it was always, in the early days, referred to as a "mini-series" about the on-goings inside a fictional White House. That to me suggests the original idea was to create just that. And then it got popular (from the start) and was then turned in a proper series.
Not certain that's true, but I'm sure I read that years ago.

The first ever episode i caught was What Kind Of Day Has It Been, and that was it , I was hooked. Luckily I have E4 so I was able to watch In the Shaddow Of Two gunmen the next week. Sadly though I obviously missed series one and was so glad when it came out to buy. Although I enjoyed series 2 , I have to say that I enjoyed series 1 more, and so far I don't think series 3 has quite got enough to change my mind. Here's hoping series 4 will do that as I've been looking forward to it for SOOoooooo long. Think I'm rambling on again

ok well since you bumped it up and all, my vote goes to series 2. i believe series 1 to be just as good (or maybe better) but i cant comment as i only saw the first few and then promptly left the country for months missing the rest of the series. ::)have been meaning for ages to catch up via video/ dvd etc but still not managed. anyway loving series 3, maybe not quite as much as 2 but i think the standard is not dropping at all. just pray it survives when as leaves after next one.

I chose s1 because it was more consistenly funny and well written cos Aaron was getting fresh new ideas into his head and working the characters up to their full potential but i absolutely loved the opening epi of s2 and loved several eps in that as well. ;D

I liked season 2 with season 1 as a close follower. i think the problem the third season was that it took so long to get going. The last half of the series from about Hartsfield Landing is top notch and the season finale is spectacular.
Cant wait for season 4.

I just had to go for Season 2. Don't get me wrong ... I loved Season 1. Those were the episodes that got me watching in the first place. But it was only when I started watching Season 2 (who can ever forget the opener of that one: 'In the shadow of two gunman I and II' was absolutely brilliant) that I got good and honoust hooked to the show. And now ... I'm a total West Wing-freak! I'm no longer a fan ... I'm having a fetisj! The reason why I didn't vote for Season 3 is fairly simple. I haven't seen it yet! It will only air in February here in Belgium. Well, that is ... I hope it will air in February! They might decide to cancell the whole show because of the ratings! Well, what do you expect when you SHOW IT AT WEDNESDAYS AROUND MIDNIGHT!!!! Okay, I'm calm again! So ... when you people are depressed because you don't know when season 4 will air ... think of me for a moment. Contemplate on what I'm feeling and take pity on me! I promise you ... you will feel better in an instant! No, excuse me ... it's freakishly hot today and I'm off to ... !!!!!

i'd love to put forward a few reasons for my favourite series so far but i'm far to drunk so will just plump fortseries 2
"someone's going to emergency.." just gets me everytime , after i've calmed down after the "shadow of a gunman" double header...donna's reaction after hearing of josh's wounding is just gut-wrenching not to mention "18th and potomac" and " 2 cathedrals "
i just hope it survives aaron and tommy's departurte

I think that being in the middle of series one on dvd for the umpteenth time says to me that it is quality - however I have been watching series four and i must admit that there are certain episodes like Debate Camp and then of course there is Twenty Five which is simply astonishing, and this could be the one for me.......
gaaaaa so hard to choose but i will plump for series four
