That was a hard choice , they are all very good, I think though I would include, among those mentioned - Take This Sabbath Day. It was funny , with Josh and Joey, and it tackled a serious issue very well. The way it ended and came together with Father Cavanaugh and his story about the man on the roof in the middle of the flood. " He Sent you a Priest, a Rabbi, and a Quaker, Mr. President, not to mention his son Jesus Christ. What do you want from him?" I really did like this episode, great writing, I think we will miss Aaron Sorkin

Hi - I've just registered on this site after visiting the C4 forums. Have just voted for Bartlet for America as best episode. I'm a huge Leo fan, so I don't think you can beat the ending of this. It's such a great moment between Leo & POTUS.

I can't believe no-one's mentioned In Excelsis Deo!
I admit to being a Toby fiend, but this episode makes me cry every time.
Mrs Landingham talking about her boys...sniff....

I must agree excelsis dio is fantastic and very touching, a very hard choice between that and my next choice, although it has not been aired here yet i'm going to stick my neck out and say "Twenty Five" is possibly the best episode i have seen, it has sooooooo much good stuff in and is also very tense. A must see.
And by the way - damn them for running series 4 on e-4 first (i dont have it) I will have to keep on watching them on the pc - for a while anyway.

I totally go for 'Noel'. It was such a powerful episode. Bradley Whitford was sooooo good in portraying the tormented Josh. He was clearly emotionally unstable, but unwilling to admit it. The scene where he yelled at the President is one to remember. It was brilliant! He just kept lying to Stanley about his hand and then ... as the music - the 'Bach prelude for cello in G-major' performed by an amazing Yo-Yo Ma- gets louder and louder you finally see what really happened. It brings me to tears every time I see it! Brad really deserved the Emmy he got for this performance. And then ... of course ... there's the whole 'Guy falling down in a hole'-story from Leo. No one else could have pulled it off the way John Spencer did!

Didn't think in excelsis dio was that good All episodes are better than your average tv but it wasn't one of my favourites.
Should have added Hartsfield Landing to the list though.

Celestial Navigation slipped my vote. There are some excellent ones quoted, but the thing I love about CN is that it's funny. Posse Comitatus and Two Cathedrals are my favourites in terms of pathos (in fact they're probably better overall, but CN is my favourite today), and Noel is excellent but very Josh-centric when I like a bit more CJ.
Not on the list which I also love: Somebody's Going To Emergency..., Women of Qumar, the CJ one in S4 when she goes to see her dad that I forget the name of.

TWO CATHEDRALES!
Best piece of television ever
I really want to see that episode in its widescreen format.
The scene with POTUS in the cathedrale denouncing god was truley tremendous, the lighting, direction, acting and of course script was superb!

I voted for Noel. I loved this episode and of course it had the "a man falls down a hole" story which was reused again by Josh to Leo. Celestial Navigation is great too. "Are you telling me that not only do I have a secret plan to fight inflation but that you also don't support it" Also In Excelsis Deo is fantastic, the final scene with Toby and Mrs. Landingham at the funeral merged with the senior staff joining POTUS listening to the choir is great editing.

Thought that, being relatively new to the site, I should resurrect this one.
I have voted for celestial navigation. Funny, flashbacks, Josh being.....well, being Josh. CJ and the foggy bottom comment. Toby going mental at everyone. Sam being a bit of a road freak. It just has everything.
Perhaps it is time for a new poll.
Most people will have seen all of Season 4 now - some great episodes in that one, including two classics in Debate Camp and the awesome Game On. Any appetite out there for a new list to choose from?

Sure, though it may be fair to wait for terrestrial viewers to catch up with all of s4: after all it would be wrong to exclude 'Commencement' especially. And 'Game On' is, as you so rightly say, just awesome: my favourite of s4.
