Hi Of those listed, Posse Comitatus, because it's got all that 'President goes out for the evening' stuff. Simon getting killed off in the way he did was a bit lame, but the Sen. Ritchie and Bartlet meet up was good: "If you're ever wondering, 'Crime, boy I dunno' is when I decided to kick your ass" President BartletAnd the whole Qumari thing is a good storyline - though it feels very much like a 9/11 type thing. I suppose the point it made (in response to ppl wanting to know why they weren't told about the threats prior to 9/11) is that the Government cannot tell you everytime there is a terrorist threat. The sheer scale of what constitutes a threat could grind a country to a halt.

Not really a cliff hanger ending, but a powerful performance from Martin Sheen. When he puts out his cigarette on the floor of the Cathedral, I think that is a strong image of comtempt towards God.

I've said it before elsewhere, Two Cathedrals...makes me cry + it was first aired on the day my son was born (sap!). The last ten minutes are simply awesome.

I haven't watch two cathedrals in a long time - not since it was originally aired on C4 last August. You know what? I'm gonna go watch it right now....

Hello all from channel 4 forum. Have just joined.
Voted for bartlet for america as it is just such good drama and absolutley gripping tv. John Spencer's performance is timeless. Have to admit though that i've got a soft spot for Celestial Navigation which is really funny, but also makes some good points at the same time. Plus its an ensemble episode where everyone has a decent role

I voted Bartlet for America, but i also think two cathedrals and the pilot were very good- especially when CJ fell off the treadmill.

I can't choose from this list, Celestial Navigation makes me laugh, Noel makes me cry, the Pilot, In the Shadow of Two Gunmen and Bartlett for America was just superb, Posse Comitatus i haven't seen and the others i can't remember.
I really can't choose one episode although one of my favourite moments is when CJ is doing the Jackal in Six Meetings Before Lunch

Two Cathedrals. One of the more sombre episodes along with Take This Sabbath Day

Loved in the Shadow of Two Gunmen - you learnt soo much about each of the characters. Being a Josh fan Celstial Nagivation is up there is the top five, along with Noel, Bartlet for America and Two Catherals

Well I am the only one so far to vote for Noel. It is a dead heat between that and Two Cathedrals really, but I wanted to give Noel a chance It was the episode that convinced me I was watching the most brilliantly characterised and sophisticated drama series since 'Edge of Darkness' (BBC, mid 80s, best thing ever on TV before TWW, IMO). The way in which the traumas of the pilot and the daughter of the Auschwitz victim were subtly used as counterpoints to Josh's own trauma were the hallmark of a writing genius. Then there was Leo's 'man in a hole' aphorism, the 'unreliable narrator' stuff with the cut hand, the Yo-Yo Ma sequence and, in Adam Arkin, one of the greatest-ever guest performers. I could go on, but you all know how good it is anyway...

While on the subject of best episode, shouldn't we be able to suggest others as well as those listed? They are all excellent episodes and most are outstanding, but how about:
Take This Sabbath Day: should be shown to all school children. As a balanced tract on a huge subject, it's incredible. And the greatest ending to any episode. The Crackpots and These Women: the one that made me fall hopelessly in love with every character, the first to make people and relationships rather than politics central, the first stone-cold classic. Somebody's Going To Emergency, Somebody's Going To Jail: Rob Lowe's finest moment, and another brilliant example of 'people not politics'. What Kind of Day Has It Been: Pulp Fiction structure, Josh and the chair, Josh and Leo and the non-hug, The Speech, the shooting...etc...etc...
Perhaps we should have a Top 10 thread, it hardly seems fair to choose 1 episode!!

All fine episodes think i'd have to pick In the Shadow of the two gunmen. The west wing do flashbacks really well. However Celestial Navigation with the "woot canal" is hilarious. I think, for those who haven't seen it Posse Comitatus will perhaps become your fave - its an excellent episode. The best of season three with the possible exception of Bartlet for America.
