Trust me we get a better deal than our US counterparts. I caught an episode when I was in the States at Christmas and they had add breaks every five minutes - even after the titles

Josh you are not alone. I am sure that on all previous C4 and E4 showings, there were just 2 breaks. Now there are 3, sometimes separated by a mere 5 minutes. We may be luckier than the USA, but it still drives me crackers. I never stay up to watch now, just tape it to avoid this mini-farce.

Yeah but if you stay up, watching the show poised with video remote control in hand you can pause out the adverts, a skill at which over the past few months i have become very very adept! Plus you can fit 4 episodes on a 3 hour tape, and watch them all back to back with no interruption - apart from the occasional little blip showing part of Paris and Renault Vel Satis d

when you get used to watching the dvd it gets rather annoying , they last about 40 ish minutes , as well you probably know , last night channel poor said it finished at 10 past 12, as far as i was concerned it finished 10 minutes early, noe i should have known this but what it meant was at least 10 minutes of ads and sh£$e before the next programme. its not the usa but its getting there by stealth

The West Wing is shown in the US of A as follows: Opening titles, the 'previously' bit and then the teaser. The NBC logo appears, as does a 'presented in w i d e s c r e e n' banner. Then the credits run through and: ad break. Back to the show for ten minutes then: ad break. Back to the show for ten minutes then: ad break, trailer for another show then, another ad break. Back to the show for ten minutes then: ad break, a quick skit through the news headlines, then another ad break and then: Back to the show for the rest. Programme fades to black and then: ad break, news skit, commercial for another show, then an ad break and then, finally: The end credits, shown at the side of the screen (ITV style a couple of years ago) with a trailer for another programme on the left of the screen. We musn't also forget that E4/C4 show a season in the space of five months. NBC get one done in eight months. There are many many gaps inbetween new episodes and repeats. Hey, they get repeats! We're being swindled!

I don't really mind the adverts too much, it's more the timing of them that annoys me. For example, on last night's episode we had a fairly long uninterrupted run to start with. Unfortunately, this meant that we then had three ad breaks fitted in to the last 35 minute segment.
We can only hope that Auntie Beeb puts in a bid for S4, then our licence fee gets us uninterupted viewing.
