Having been taken completely by surprise at John Kerry's support and success in the primaries, I'd say that come November anything is possible.

Deffo. I despise Bush and am very suspicious of the Republican party in general (really not my bag), and I do like the look of Kerry, so he's all good for me

I agree with both of ya, hate Dubya, never heard of the independent guy and have been following Kerrys race... He's like a dark horse coming from behind to win his Party's nomination..

Kerry wouldn't have been the democrat I would have chosen out of the bunch but he seems like a good guy with some good ideas and it is impressive how he is progressing-
I so hope he kicks Bush's ass!

However, if the Democrats do take the White House that's gonna piss all over whatever it is Al Gore might be playing at. Some suspect that he chose not to run this year because he wanted to avoid a Bush/Gore 2000 scenario all over again.
And some crazy people also say that Hillary Clinton didn't run this year because she didn't want to challenge a sitting president.
When both of those two declared their intention not to run for 2004 Bush still looked unbeatable, and if that has changed completely then 2008 is not going the be the year of opportunity some might have been hoping for where nothing will be there for the taking.
Ah, the joy of conspiracy theories.

I agree with both of ya, hate Dubya, never heard of the independent guy and have been following Kerrys race... He's like a dark horse coming from behind to win his Party's nomination.. Ralph Nader ran as an independent in 2000 and is accused by many Democrats of allowing Bush to 'win' by taking key votes away from Al Gore (how important this was compared to Brother Jeb, hanging chads and removing blacks from the register is a matter for conjecture). Therefore they were especially keen that he stay out of the race this time. As cynical as I am about American politics, the fact that the GOP can still smear Kerry as a peacenik when he has actually fought in Vietnam just about takes the biscuit. When it comes to draft-dodger versus vet, we all know which side they're usually on... but no!! I don't quite get why it's still such a badge of honour NOT to argue that Vietnam was a very costly foreign policy error, either. I would have thought someone who fought there and THEN joined the anti-war movement pretty much had all the bases covered, but there you go...

And some crazy people also say that Hillary Clinton didn't run this year because she didn't want to challenge a sitting president. I actually believe Hilary when she says she has no intention of ever running for President. Which is a shame. Cos I also think that she is the best chance America has of finally having a female Pres. As for Nader, even with him in the race it's still the Democrats election to lose. Like, say, concentrating on berating Nader instead of focusing on Bush...

As bad as Kerry would be as the New Pres (and he is not that much of an improvement listening to what he has to say) but anybody but anybody to beat bush.
Unless daddy and co rig the election again i think it could be really tight. well worth keeping an eye on for the political junky's out there
Just reading Better than sex by Hunter s Thompson about the Clinton/Bush campaign it really is excellent, well worth a read if you like political books.
I think Hilary would have made a great President but then I also liked Bill (ok so he did get people bumped off now and again but he did do the job very well)

I think this November's election could be the closest we've seen - leading either to the election of Kerry, or the actual election of Bush this time. Hopefully, without Katherine Harris as SecState for Florida, the Democrats stand a fighting chance this year.
As a Brit, I don't particularly care about Bush and Kerry's domestic policies, however I think Bush has opened a Pandora's box he can no longer control in the Middle East, and we now need a Democrat to come along and sort it out, and hopefully reverse the worrying swing to the right that we've observed over the last few years worldwide.
