Hey we're getting quite a good Ayrshire/Glasgow Uni thing going on here!
Josh's number 1 fan, it's good to hear that you're from an excellent part of the world, go to an excellent uni, AND frequent an excellent union!!
I've just put in my form to be a freshers helper at the GUU next year, i was one this year and it was even better than my freshers week in first year. So hope i get chosen

I was thinking of signing up for it. Do you get paid or do you get free drink. Freshers week was really good last year. Do you stay up in glasgow in halls or a flat. i stay in bloody murano st it's a dive.

You don't get paid, but you get a lot of free drink and food and the chance to be at the union every night! Thats 6 hive nights in a row!! Theres also an afterparty for helpers every night with heaps of free booze, so some nights you don't even go home but just stay and get trollied, ready to start "helping freshers" again the next morning. Unfortunately forms had to be in on friday (23rd) so if you haven't put one in, you're no longer able to. I stayed in halls last year, the famous (infamous) dalrymple halls of 2001/2002. It's a crying shame but that was the last year of dalrymple, its now shut . At one point, all the university halls security staff had to be based at dalrymple coz it was such a riot, even though there were only 200 of us. Plus we got food cooked for us by betty and keith! I've got a flat now, at st georges cross, which is pretty neat, but i miss the chat at halls. My flatmate is actually from Ayr too. Murano street is a bit of a dump, a lot of my mates stayed there last year and wouldn't go back if you paid them. Its definitely more fun to be in a flat. What school did you go to in Ayr? Just asking coz evidently marr college is far better! d

Can't believe they have shut Dalrymple St. Halls, I was there in my first year and it was undoubtedly the premier residence. A sad time indeed. As for the GUU, it wasn't the Hive when I was there, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was called. I suppose nights there must have been pretty good then !
Have checked back on my Protection Of Animals cases and don't see any involving badgers, so can assume you haven't come to my attention in the past Badger Boy. Never mind, there's time yet.

I went to Belmont Academy the best school in South Ayrshire. Marr college doesn't even compare. Wot's your flatmates name i might know him. Shame about freshers week i'll just need to go to the hive anyway. Looking for a flat for next year. no success yet.

From Nottingham (boys, it's not true about there being 6 women to every man , though it's about 60-40... ;D), went to uni in Sheffield (still my favourite place) and now live and work in Birmingham (sorry Brummies, it's a weird city, perhaps I'm too much of a Northerner). it used to be 7/1 , but that was a long time ago , early 90's , went there a few times and had a superb time ,

Right, i'm sure thats four of us now with an ayrshire/glasgow thing going. Madness! The hive may be a dump, but is my spiritual home from first year, and is still the place i go when i want to get absolutely hammered d

thats quite a scary connection! and i am not going to judge as despite calling the hive a dump i'm sure i spent more time in all the dodgy union bars than i did in a lecture theatre during my four years. whats even sadder than that is i have even been known to still frequent places like the cough*garage*cough. the spiritual home of all glasgow students. purely for nostalgic reasons you understand!

The Garage, now there's a place. Many a night spent in there with some fantastic live acts thrown in. I was back up recently at a gig and it hasn't changed a bit since the early 90's.
Memories indeed !
Wherabouts in Ayrshire were you Mervale ?

glad i'm not the only one to admit to that! hasnt changed at all has it? even have the same music, but the people look so young. was in irvine for a while and then also the countryside in n. ayrshire. as nsa do you think the high proportion of weegies/ ayrshire folk is some sort of conspiricy? or is it down to the high education standards and great taste

Is there anyone from Scotland on this forum, apart from me, NOT from Glasgow/Ayrshire? Or am I alone?

Spike you would appear to be in a minority old chum. As for the Ayrshire / Glasgow conspiracy, as NSA it's good to have strength in numbers, knowing you can rely on those of like minds and backgrounds when the going gets tough.
When the revolution comes, we know who is in the majority folks...
