Thanks for all the book ideas everyone, I only have the companion and script books at present. I think we would all have different selections for the 6 best scripts! I was disappointed that they were only transcipts. I would like to read some original scripts or even get deleted scenes on the dvds. Yes Joey I agree it was 50 and Charlie & Donna were absent, and Ke Josh was on the right in that scene.

I've only got the doorstop Official, and even though I found it a bit superfluous as a lot of the knowledge was in my head anyway, the character profiles and episode descriptions were useful. I liked all the quotes from the actors and production team that it has all over the place - and well, it's just pretty.

Hey all Whilst browsing through my local Waterstones yesterday after work (looking for something else entirely) I noticed an updated and revised edition of Keith Topping's 'Inside Bartlet's White House' So obviously I bought it. It's £6.99: the format is exactly the same, i.e. a thematic assessment of each episode split into headings about politics, references, Donna etc. The only disappointing thing is it stops after 'Process Stories', so you effectively get just one extra season for your money (the previous book stopped at 'The Women of Qumar'). This is particularly galling as the author appears to have seen the rest, as indicated by the 2-line synopses of the remainder of season 4, which are placed at the end of the book. Also, the departures of both Rob Lowe and Aaron Sorkin are dealt with, so publication must have been after May 2003 (indeed, it is dated 2004). Having said that though, it is new TWW material and I did love the first one (mainly because of the episode critiques, a lot of which were spot on). It is hugely opinionated again, which is a good thing as the official companion doesn't distinguish in quality between a stunner like Two Cathedrals and a (relative) duffer like The Lame Duck Congress. There are one or two surprises, for example Topping's favourite episode of season 3 is not one of the three universally cited on this board... (it is my 4th favourite though) and his view of the season 4 opener goes against the grain somewhat. And one or two challenging issues are raised, like whether the display of a very 'right-wing' foreign policy (Toby, 'Night Five' e.g. 'They'll like us when we win') was a conscious reaction to the loss of ratings in the more jingoistic political climate post 9/11. Also, his review of just about my personal favourite of season 4 ('Game On') is the kind of thing that makes you want to cheer (and despair yet more of Channel 4). I would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone who hasn't got the first edition, and to anyone who has but is still pretty obsessive about TWW (most of us...?). (I think I just set a new record for most brackets in a single post.... )

I have both of Toppings books, the obsessed fan that I am. Well to be honest, the first had got so dog-eared I had to get the second so it could look nice on my bookshelf along with the Official companion, which is gorgeously glossy and a must-have. I'm not bothered by the fact that its extremely cheap now either, cause I've been able to enjoy it for 2 years, and I couldn't have waited for it!
The West Wing Season 3-4 shooting scripts - anybody got it? I still haven't! -_-

Was in the US a few weeks ago and bought season 3-4 shooting scripts while i was there. Definitely worth buying, Aaron Sorkin explains the background to all the featured episodes in detail, very interesting.
The episodes featured are: Issaac and Ishmael (Don't think this episode was thje best choice to feature but the story behind it is interesting), Bartlet for America, Posse Commitatus, 20 Hours in America, Noel Commencement and 25.
